ACC Applauds Passage of California Bill That Will Increase Recovery of Food Service Packaging

SACRAMENTO (September 5, 2018) — This week California’s SB 1335 passed the Senate and will head to the Governor for signature. The following statement may be attributed to Tim Shestek, senior director of state affairs at the American Chemistry Council (ACC):

“ACC and our allies that support SB 1335, including the California Restaurant Association, Western Plastics Association, Plastics Industry Association, and Dart, applaud the passage of this bill, which will increase the recovery of all food service packaging materials in California’s state agencies, facilities and property.

We sincerely appreciate the leadership of Senator Ben Allen and his staff for working with all stakeholders to craft legislation that reflects a material-neutral approach and establishes clear criteria for increasing the recovery of all food service packaging materials.

We look forward to working with Cal Recycle to create a program that is informed by scientific data; considers input and expertise from the food service packaging industry, food service providers, and others; and helps ensure meaningful recovery of all food service materials.

We urge Governor Brown to sign this bill into law.”
