India’s Cosmo Films introduces new BOPP based heat-resistant film

Indian packaging films manufacturer Cosmo Films has launched bi-axially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) based heat-resistant film.

The company designed the film to function as a printing layer, replacing biaxially-oriented polyethylene terephthalate (BoPET) film in multi-layer laminates for various packaging applications in food and non-food segments.

Available in 15µ, 18µ and 20µ, the films are clear, non-heat sealable and can be treated on both sides. They also offer high-printability when reverse printing.

Cosmo Films CEO Pankaj Poddar said: “Homogeneous structures are becoming increasingly preferable as recyclability of multilayer packaging becomes the need of the hour.

“Polypropylene structures or even polypropylene plus polyethylene structures are better placed from recyclability perspective because they belong to the same polymer family.

The film also has positive slip properties and machinability, alongside thermally stable properties that offer a good lamination bond. Customers can also use the film for both adhesive and extrusion lamination.

Cosmo Films has also introduced a transparent barrier version of the heat-resistant film, which offers improved oxygen barrier properties and an oxygen transmission rates (OTR) of less than 100cc/m2/day.

The grease-resistance feature of the barrier based film is applicable for oily snack food packaging.

Last month, the company launched a cast polypropylene (CPP) metalised film with high metal bond strength.

Available in standard thicknesses ranging from 20µ to 30µ, the metalised film is designed to provide greater interlayer bond strength for making multi-layer laminate structures.
